Doing it properly

Sustainability

Honest numbers about what we do well, and what we are still fixing.

What we do

Six things we do properly.

Figures on this page are fictional demo numbers.

  • 100%

    Compostable takeaway

Every cup, lid and bag we hand over is certified compostable, and we collect them back for commercial composting.

  • 11 t

    Grounds composted a year

Used coffee grounds go to a local farm and community gardens, not landfill.

  • +38%

    Above the fair-trade floor

We pay an average of 38% above the fair-trade minimum, and we publish the price per lot.

  • 100%

    Renewable roasting

The drum roaster runs on renewable electricity, with an afterburner that cuts smoke and heat.

  • 2,400

    Reusable cups a month

Bring your own cup and you will save ten cents a drink. Last month that added up to 2,400 cups.

  • 0

    Food to landfill

Surplus pastries go to a community fridge at closing time, and kitchen scraps are composted.

Being honest

What we are still fixing.

Sustainability is not a finished project. We still fly some green coffee halfway around the world, our milk comes in plastic-lined cartons, and the kitchen throws out more eggshells than we would like.

This year we are moving to sea freight for most lots, switching to refillable milk, and composting shells on site. We will report back, whether the news is good or bad.
