A hardware store, a rescued pole and one very long mirror.
Brass & Blade opened in 2014 in a former hardware store on a Surry Hills lane. Marco had been cutting hair for five years in other people’s shops and wanted a place that felt like a club: proper chairs, proper towels, and nobody rushing you out the door.
The brass fittings, the black-and-white floor and the long mirror were all here when he took the lease. The pole out front came from a barbershop in Newtown that was closing down, and it has been spinning ever since. Today there are four chairs, a waiting list for Saturdays and the same rule we started with: everybody gets a hot towel.
